There are some basic measures which seem to be less on time knowledge but are vital keys to help you in computer troubleshooting:

  • Save and Backup your data: It is always advisable that whatever work you are doing on, make it a habit to keep saving that correspondingly, as a minor glitch in system like crash, shutdown or restart may lead to loss of the unsaved data. If your hard drive is in such a condition, or you are feeling like it may crash or the computer may not start-up again, backup all your critical data either on a cloud-based online service or consider copying the data to a network drive or burn it onto a CD/DVD or Flash drive for later use.
  • Scan your hard disk for any damage or bad sectors.
  • If your HDD is not working properly and is cluttered a lot, defragment your hard drive.
  • Delete all files and programs like temporary and clean-up the registry files.
  • The files which are no longer in use should be removed.
  • Use an anti-virus program to remove the malware which could lead to some serious damage.
  • Safety measures regarding power: Before you make any hardware adjustments, take some suitable measures:
  • Check that your electricity components are in good condition and not faulty. You can use an antistatic wrist strap and mat.
  • When working with its internal components keep the power switch turned off to avoid any type of electric-short.

#2 Troubleshooting Sound Card and Video Card issues

  • Sound Card: If you are experiencing loss of audio on your device, the first thing is to check that the external speaker system is in good condition and rightly plugged to the power. Secondly check that the audio control system in your PC system settings is right. If both these conditions are secure then you need to check out for any issues with your system’s sound card.

First, be sure that you have a sound card installed on your system and have speakers or headphones connected to it.

May be your sound card drivers are not installed properly. Consult your sound card documentation on how to install drivers for your sound card.

  • Video Card: There are several video-related components that can be included with video or graphics issues, usually the monitor and the video adapter card, and the motherboard. In such a condition, the computer starts up but nothing appears on the monitor.
    • At first, check if your monitor is in good working condition and is rightly plugged to the power supply and the CPU.

If everything is alright with the monitor, then the video card adapter might not be properly seated or having a loose connection with the monitor.

  • Check that the cable running from the monitor to the VGA port is secure.
  • Maybe your Video adapter card has been damaged and needs to be replaced.
  • Also, your VGA drivers might not be working properly and needs to be re-installed.
