How To Create A WordPress Blog That Aggregates Content From Other Blogs

There are various times when you have created many blogs and you want to aggregate all the content of those blogs at one single blog which you can probably call it the master blog. One of the great ways that you can do it is either via WordPress network which initially started as WordPress MU(a fork of WordPress) but that may be a challenge getting it installed in a shared server. Well for these type of situations we always have a solution! You may want to read about WordPress network once before you leap ahead to do this process but installing WordPress Network may be a challenging process if :

  • If you are on a shared host, a lot of shared host don’t have specifications enough to support this and even WordPress officially doesn’t recommend a network based on a shared hosting environment.
  • You may have had setup blogs at different platforms such as Tumblr or Blogger and you want to syndicate all of them at one place and lets face it WordPress Network only works for WordPress and nothing else.
  • You may want to create an official website for yourself and want to aggregate your YouTube updates, Twitter feed and other social media presence at one place which again is not possible in WP Network.

Because of all of the listed above reasons you are recommended to go ahead by another simple process which practically doesn’t require any technical knowledge of any sort. This is how you do it You may find the video below helpful while installing.

#1 Download an Install Feed WordPress

Its a plugin developed by a guy named Charles Johnson and you need to install it. You can either do it directly from you WordPress installation or simply by downloading from the repository and then uploading it or FTP. Whatever  just install and activate it.

Get It Now

#2 Go to the Syndication Option and do the Settings

Check your left sidebar in the WordPress admin area where you will find a complete new option called Syndication has come up(its gotta be in the end). Just click on it, and you will see on the right that there is a place where you can find a place to add an RSS/Atom feed. Add the feed of the blog you want to syndicate the content from. fwp-1 Once you add the feed in the space provide there, click on the Add Button next to it

#3 Update

Generally after you add the feed, the content should start showing on you main blog, but if it doesn’t go back to the syndication option and there on the top find the update button. You can update it there which may take a few seconds(or a minute). Once done, its for sure the content will come up on you blog. fwp-2 You can set up in the options if you would like the link on your blog to go to the original website/blog link or you want a duplicate content of that content there. Remember replication of exact content at various places may reduce your page rank and may affect your site’s goodwill. Remember only if your content is free to be shared you would be able to syndicate/aggregate content. You can also check in the setting further that you can set any custom post type for your content to aggregate. Please don’t use this tool to aggregate content from popular blogs as that may amount to copyrights infringement. Only use this if you own the content and you have the rights to use it at other places. Good Luck !
